THE PARISH NEWS
HAYWARD-TRONDHJEM
LUTHERAN PARISH
July 2011
From Pastor Katie:
“The sun
shall no longer be your light by day,
nor for brightness shall the moon
give light to you by night
but the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.” Isaiah 60:19
It is easier in these long
sunny days of July to imagine the everlasting light of God than in the dark
days of winter as we sit huddled in our homes longing for light. Summer is a time to plant and care for things as
they grow and let one’s imagination roam.
I just got back from my
“Mini-MBA” for pastors training and find myself in the imagining stage. We
heard from business and religious leaders on problem-solving, the changing
church culture, finances, stewardship, mediation, leadership,
strategic planning and visioning, marketing and human resources. My main goal
in this training was to feel like I had more of a grasp on the business side of
being a church, and from that perspective it was a successful week. However, we
also wrestled with and were invited to explore with our congregations deeper questions,
from “What is God up to here?” to “How do people in our community view our
church?” It is on this level that there is still much to ponder and I hope as
time goes on to find others to engage these questions with me.
Summer is also considered a
“quieter time” when we bask in these sunny days. I know there are many who have
been off camping and on other vacation adventures. I am looking forward to
taking some time off in July for vacation. Norbert and I will be on vacation
from July 11-20 and Pastor Spande will be filling in on Sunday, July 17 – I
know he will be delighted to see you all.
There will be some excitement in July, though,
and not just from fireworks on the 4th. There is a youth kayaking
trip planned for Friday, July 8. We will have our bake sale and brunch, outdoor
worship and potluck for Hayward Days, July 9 and 10. Our Bible studies on
Thursday mornings will continue as we read some less well-known Bible passages
in worship.
Where do you see God’s light
shining in your own life? In our parish?
Enjoy these summer days as
they fly away.
God’s peace,
Pastor Katie

THANK YOU FROM THE CEMETERY BOARD
The Hayward Cemetery
Board would like to thank all of you that attended and donated to the cemetery
fundraiser. We really appreciated the turnout and it was good to see everyone.
Thanks to those of you that sent checks in the mail. Money spent on upkeep of
the cemetery needs to come from the INTEREST on any CD's that we have and your
generous contributions. CD's must not be spent for the care of the cemetery.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO:
Keith
and Janet Iverson that donated the hog.
Todd
and Cheryl Enderson of Nicks that donated the processing. Mrs. Gerry's gave us a reduced price on salads.
McDonalds donated
drinks and cups.
Pastor
Katie for singing for us.
Our
men’s choir for their singing.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO:
Dick
and Gwen Hanson and Kay and Chris Skaar, who worked that day and
helped with the planning of this event.
We
sent out over 100 notices in the mail to people that do not get the newsletter
and received several checks from those mailings. We thank them, also.
Again, THANKS to all of you! You are
appreciated!

ALTAR GUILD
WOULD YOU LIKE TO CONTRIBUTE FRESH FLOWERS?
Fresh
flowers for the altar are a beautiful addition to our worship service. If you wish to furnish flowers, all you need
to do is call the Altar Guild president, Marlene Thompson (373-3895). The Guild will purchase and display the
flowers for you, and if you wish, will put an acknowledgement in the Sunday
bulletin. Cost of the flowers is usually
about $20. Your generosity and support
are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
